An association management company (AMC) is a professional firm providing administrative and business services to professional membership associations and societies, trade associations, nonprofit organizations, foundations, consumer organizations and federations. AMCs employ experienced and successful association professionals who are experts in areas such as: meeting and event planning, strategic planning, leadership development, communications, certification and standards setting, education, government relations and lobbying, marketing, and technology.
McBride & Associates, like many AMCs, provides a full array of management services, but can also provide a more limited number of services, tailored to meet your needs. We also provide specific project work and outsourcing services. You pick the services that you need, and we deliver them.
Benefits of Contracting with an AMC
Allows your association or organization to share resources such as: professional staff, office space, and supplies.
Provides experienced staff to meet your organization’s needs, as your organization changes or grows. You do not have to train new staff or incur increased overhead expenses when your organization’s needs change.
Provides in-house experts for services such as website management and strategic planning.
Allows for flexibility when you need to adjust the services that your association or organization offers.
Reduces operating costs because AMCs share expenses among clients.
AMC Structure and Staffing
AMCs can be as small as one full-time person, or with a large staff. Staffing is the responsibility of the AMC. This includes the responsibility of recruiting, interviewing, training, mentoring and negotiating salaries and benefits. At M&A, we ask our clients to complete an annual evaluation and discuss the outcomes, to help ensure that we are meeting expectations.
Each AMC has one or more staff assigned to your association or organization. Most AMCs, including M&A, designate an account manager to serve as your executive director. At M&A, you will also have other staff providing support to your association or organization. Many of the support staff work behind the scenes. Your members will not be aware that you are contracting with an AMC, unless you wish to communicate that. At M&A, we take steps to ensure that your association has and maintains its own identity. Please contact us for details on how we ensure that your members speak directly with staff assigned to your organization when they call their association office.
